The hiring process of every company and organization can be improved. Because if it can’t be improved, then it’s already perfect, and we already know that perfection is not possible.
Instead, “Progress, not perfection” should be the mantra.
A New Year is the perfect time to address any shortcomings in your company’s hiring process. Yes, things are more complicated due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic conditions that currently exist in this country and around the world.
However, chances are good that your company still wants the best professionals working for it as employees. And if you plan to hire in 2021, then it stands to reason that your hiring process could use some improvement in the interest of better quality hires.
With that in mind, below are four steps for fine-tuning your hiring process in the New Year:
#1—Use the sourcing methods that produce the best candidates.
If you don’t know which sourcing methods produce the best candidates, then you should find out as quickly as possible. Ideally, you should be tracking this information. That way, you know where to focus your energy and efforts when attempting to identify top talent.
#2—Make sure that the right people are part of the hiring process.
There are two types of people who should be part of the process. First, those most closely associated with the position you’re attempting to fill. And second, those who can effectively screen candidates and assess their candidacy. In addition, there should be clear communication and set expectations between everybody involved in the process.
#3—Recognize the importance of employer branding.
Some hiring managers overlook this, and that’s a mistake. Employer branding is more important in this day and age, largely because top professionals and candidates want more than just a great job. They also want to work for a great employer that holds the same values they do. Your organization should be able to communicate this to them through proper employer branding.
#4—Engage candidates effectively.
This is one of the best ways to practice proper employer branding. If you want hire the best candidates, then you must effectively engage them during the hiring process.
This means setting expectations, communicating with candidates often, and letting them know what the next step of the process is going to be. If you don’t engage with top candidates, then they are more likely to drop out of the interview and hiring process completely. And you can’t hire them if they drop out of the process.
