Recently in this blog, we’ve addressed the topic of cloud computing. Specifically, we’ve done so with the following posts:

  • “Want to Stand Out? Become an Expert in the Hybrid Cloud”
  • “The Cloud: a Growing Source of Data AND Jobs”

The bottom line with this series of posts is this: how can YOU leverage this information to find a better employment situation?

By all accounts, this is a pivotal year for cloud computing technology. That means we’re experiencing what is known as a “tipping point.” Simply put, more companies are choosing the cloud computing route as opposed to those that are not.

Once past the “tipping point,” it’s only a matter of time before ALL organizations choose cloud computing for their various data needs. Consequently, these organizations will need to hire professionals who can help them to successfully navigate the cloud.

But let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. What does this mean for you as an IT professional?

When it comes to companies embracing cloud computing technology, they fall into one of two categories. Those categories are as follows:

  1. Established companies that are making the switch from non-cloud technology to the cloud
  2. New companies (i.e., start-ups) that are attempting to go straight to the cloud

Organizations in one of the two categories may be in need of different professionals than the ones in the other category. Or perhaps more accurately, they need professionals who possess the skills necessary to accomplish a wide range of tasks.

Specifically, the people these companies are seeking are cloud architects. These professionals are responsible for overseeing an organization’s cloud computing strategy. This is a rather comprehensive endeavor, since it includes the following:

  • Adoption plans
  • Application design
  • Monitoring/management

The average salary for these types of positions is well over $100,000 per year and in most cases is closer to $200,000. As is the case with most salary ranges, a lot depends upon the location of the job and the experience and skill of the person within the position.

If you’re looking to grow your career, then tackling cloud computing could be the right move for you. If you’re already working within this realm, there are plenty of opportunities available in the current job market.
