Times have definitely changed, and they’ve done so in the span of just a few short months. While there are some states that are beginning to lift and/or loosen the restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things won’t be returning to normal anytime soon.
And this definitely pertains to the employment marketplace. Things are being done differently, mainly because things still need to get done. One of these things is hiring. Despite the fact that the economy has taken a hit recently from the impact of the pandemic, there are still companies and organizations that are looking to hire.
As you might imagine, these employers are still looking for the best job candidates in the marketplace. Whatever else the pandemic has changed, it hasn’t changed that. Companies still want to hire top talent, and that’s something that will never change.
But what does that mean? How will it happen? Well, as we’ve detailed in previous blog posts, the popularity of video interviewing has increased dramatically during the past several weeks. That will likely continue to be the case, at least for the immediate future (and quite possibly longer than that).
The bottom line is that not only is it okay to explore new employment opportunities in this current climate, but it’s also okay to accept an offer of employment without meeting anybody from the company in person. Yes, that might seem out of the ordinary. But once again, we now live in extraordinary times.
In fact, when a company makes an offer of employment to you without meeting you in person, it’s an indication of two positive things:
#1—They think you’re a top-notch candidate.
Think about it. Employers typically have a lot of confidence in a job candidate if they make an offer to the candidate, and that applies to normal conditions, unlike what we’re currently experiencing. So if they make an offer to a job candidate without meeting in person, then it must mean they have a tremendous amount of confidence in that candidate.
#2—The company is forward-thinking.
Who doesn’t want to work for a forward-thinking company? If an organization is bold enough to not only continue hiring during a time like this, but it’s also bold enough make an offer of employment without meeting the candidate in person, then it definitely qualifies as forward-thinking.
This kind of approach is indicative of a company that does not allow fear to dictate its decisions. Instead, it continues to move forward to embrace innovative solutions to problems. And if that is the organization’s approach during a crisis, then you can bet that it’s also the approach it takes in the absence of a crisis.
Once again, the bottom line is that not only is it okay to explore new employment opportunities in this current climate, but it’s also okay to accept an offer of employment without meeting anybody from the company in person.
This is part of the “new normal” . . . at least for the foreseeable future.
