First, we presented “2 of the Biggest Hiring Challenges in the Current Marketplace.”
Then, we submitted “3 More Big Hiring Challenges in the Current Marketplace.”
Now, we’re going to address how an employer should approach their hiring efforts, considering all of the challenges that exist.
Whatever else you do in terms of hiring, one thing that employers should absolutely do is be proactive regarding their efforts. There are two steps involved. First, you must have a proactive mindset, and second, you must have a proactive approach. In other words, think in a proactive fashion and then act in such a fashion.
If you hope to hire the best candidates representing the top talent in the employment marketplace, then you can NOT just sit back and wait. That strategy will not position you, nor your organization, for success. In fact, it will almost certainly ensure that you do not achieve your hiring goals in 2020.
Right now, you might be thinking to yourself, “You’re just saying that because you want me to use a recruiter to fill my open positions.”
Actually, we’re not. It doesn’t matter if you use a recruiter or not for hiring. Even if you don’t engage the services of a recruiter, you still have to be proactive. That is a non-negotiable aspect to the hiring landscape for employers.
Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that you do not work with a recruiter and you don’t plan to work with one in the foreseeable future. If that’s the case, you will still need to do the following if you have plans to hire this year:
- Identify the best candidates.
- Contact the best candidates.
- Convince these candidates to consider your employment opportunity.
- Convince the candidates to join your organization as an employee during every step of hiring process.
- Onboard your new employees with excellence so they do not reconsider by accepting a counter-offer from their current employer or an offer of employment with another organization.
Successful hiring is not easy, but it can be done. However, it requires an investment in the form of time, energy, and effort.
The bottom line is that without making that investment, it will be exceedingly difficult to maximize your organization’s human capital and its potential for growth.
And that goes not just for 2020, but for the entire upcoming decade.
